the economist speaks out on gun control

This is a great article . People need to talk about it more.

And another article from the same issue, about the same issue.

the thing is, LaPierre's NRA is a HUMONGOUS lobbying force here in the states. and also, this issue is split down the middle. for every person who thinks about banning weapons, there is another who believes the way to PREVENT V Tech tragedies is to BEAR arms. this issue here is almost as banal as the Roe v. Wade ruling. It's a tug of war; no one is ever going to pull hard enough (i.e. vote) to tip it in favour of a ban.

I know. The NRA is huge there. People are kissing their asses right now.

I don't get it. I just don't get it. Even OPRAH didn't talk about gun control on a whole show dedicated to the tragedy. I feel like I'm in bizarro land.

well, as i've said before; there really cannot be any type of "control." in a way, all this talk is futile. it's beyond control. so it's not worth banging your head against the wall. who is Oprah?

I hope its OK to say here but I am a huge Democrat but I do believe that one day there could be a republican that is worthy of my vote.

That being said I do belive that there needs to be stricter gun laws that I think the Democrats are to afraid to push. When people say that everyone should have guns, even teachers I find that shocking. I just don't get it. I don't see this crazy obsession with it. Maybe I do see it, it's power. When I lived in FL no one wanted to see Bowling for Columbine. There response actually was "I dont support anyone who wants to take my gun away". That was back in 2004. When they voted for Bush that year they did it to keep there gone and not put a quote on quote baby killer in office.

I guess my point is that this country doesnt have its priorities straight. I dont know if it ever will. We are a country of crazies.
